PARENTS Vs TEACHERS IN BUILDING THE FUTURE CITIZENS By Dr. Guramritpal

PARENTS Vs TEACHERS IN BUILDING THE FUTURE CITIZENS

Children are the building blocks of the society. Siblings born out of same parents differ tremendously in their behavior, distractibility, areas of interest and of course moral values, despite the fact that the schools impart similar premeditated, stereotypic, compulsive knowledge to both of them. What lies beneath?

Children, right from the time they gain their senses and able to learn the evils and holies of the society of their lives, have a major contribution from their parents. This lasts not only till the child is inducted into his elementary and basic schooling, but through the life. Parents are the role models of their wards. The way of living is taught by the parents though the efforts infused by the teachers cannot be marginalized. The children living in the hostels are perfect examples of the claim. Though these children stay closer to their teachers than their parents most hours of the day and more weeks of the month, no sample till date has declared their supremacy over the day scholars in sense of behavior and better human values.

The teachers on the other hand, are like the light house in the middle of the dark sea of uncertainties. They know, better than the parents, about the professional skills, adaptability and field he can excel in. But their contribution in making them a better citizen is dubious. Though teachers’ role is focused only to the field of study or at the most, sports, the parents rear the child and are responsible for their global improvement. All school children are taught about stopping at the “red” light, but the children start obeying the traffic lights and signals when they see the parents abiding by them when they travel with their children. Same is the case of helping a debilitated octogenarian on the verge of busy road, trying hard to cross to the other side. All text books want us to help them, but the children start this good habit when they see passer byes applauding their own parents when they help a blind or not so able person to overcome a hurdle.

Conclusively, the teachers, though make better students out of children, cannot be credited for the moral values, human development and attitude. Contrastingly, the parents, with advertent efforts and continuous labor and perseverance wish, and to a level, succeed in efficient bringing up of the child who could be tagged as a better citizen of the nation.
